Simple Ways to Foster Your Physical and Mental Well-Being

Your quality of life hinges on a combination of physical and mental well-being. In such crazy times, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and anxious, which can have a profound impact on your overall health and well-being. What’s more, finding time to truly foster your quality of life can seem next to impossible. 

Fortunately, there are ways to improve your head-to-toe health — simple, effective habits that can easily fit into your everyday life. 

Stay active

Exercising regularly comes with a long list of overall health benefits, according to Best Health.

For one, it can play a major role in helping you control your weight, which comes with a slew of benefits all on its own.

Exercise also improves your immune system and helps you to battle chronic health conditions and diseases.

But the benefits don’t stop with physical health; being active can boost your energy, enhance your mood, improve your sleep habits, and so much more.

So many people understand what exercise can do for their lives, yet think that it simply cannot fit into their daily routines.

While there are plenty of complex and time-consuming fitness programs out there, they’re not the only way to get and stay healthy.

Engaging in an activity like Pilates for as little as 20 minutes a day can do wonders for your physical and mental well-being.

One thing to consider is purchasing a smartwatch.

While you don’t need a smartwatch or fitness tracker to maintain an exercise routine, many of the models offer features that can help keep you motivated, healthy, safe and can even help you keep tabs on your business.

Whether you’re running, walking, playing a recreational sport, or engaging in any other kind of physical activity, using a smartwatch could prove beneficial. 

Make your diet a focal point.

Eating well is another habit you can’t ignore if your goal is to improve your head-to-toe health.

Explore the many types of diets out there, but be wary of the hype. At the end of the day, it’s important to focus on what kinds of food benefit your body the most. Leafy greens, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains are generally hard to beat. 

Keep learning

Seeking out new experiences and learning opportunities keeps your brain engaged and is beneficial to your mental health.

For example, you can challenge yourself by starting a new hobby. Another idea is going back to school to earn your degree, which may even be beneficial to your career.

There are many career-relevant degrees available, and if you choose to learn online, you’ll be able to complete the coursework at your own pace. 

Relax every day

The ironic thing about relaxation is that it is the most difficult habit for most people to maintain.

After all, think of all the productive things you could be doing instead of kicking your feet up in the air!

But if you take time out of each day to do something relaxing, it will help you recharge and, as AlignThoughts notes, boost your productivity levels.

Plus, relaxing can significantly benefit your long-term physical and mental health.

Carve out time in your schedule to sip on tea, read a book, get a massage, or do any other kind of relaxing activities. 

Chilling at home calls for creating a positive environment in your living space.

If you notice a lot of complaining or blaming among family members, or some areas have become cluttered over time, it’s time to take a few simple steps such as decluttering, adding more houseplants, and bringing in more natural light.

You’ll be surprised at how a few actions can amount to so much more of a happy, relaxed atmosphere. 

Make time for rest

Along with finding relaxing things to do, make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Adults should be getting seven to nine hours a night.

Make time for a bedtime routine that calms your body and mind (e.g., taking hot baths, listening to soothing music, doing stretches, etc.). 

You can improve and maintain your head-to-toe health and well-being without drastically changing your lifestyle.

Incorporating some or all of the habits above in your daily routine will go a long way in helping you reach your health and wellness goals.

The most important thing is to be conscious of what your body and mind need; they will tell you what you need to do if you listen!

That’s what led me to take such a long break from the blog and socials! 

It took me a long time to shake that feeling. But one thing I know for certain is, I never want to feel like that again and I don’t want you to either. 

But things get tricky when you have a chronic illness. It’s here to stay. We can’t hit the kill switch on our illness. So how on earth are we supposed to ‘recharge’?

Todays officially the worst day of year..aka Blue Todays officially the worst day of year..aka Blue Monday. I don’t really believe in it but I get the idea. 

I do know that things can feel a little ‘blah’ and dreary around this time of year. 

The holidays are over, and with them can come a wave of sadness. The decorations have been taken down; the presents have been opened, and all that's left is to face the reality of January and the cold winter months ahead.

If you live with chronic pain or illness, you come to realise how important rest actually is❗️

It's the one thing we need to keep going.

However, in a world where 'maximising your time' and productivity hacks are shoved down our throats, particularly at this time of year (New year, new me and all that shit). It's easy to feel you're wasting time or not doing enough by prioritising rest. 

But I'm here to say fuck that! 🖕🏾

Rest when we need it can NEVER be a waste of time!

It's an investment...! Particularly if you have pain or any health condition!

Rest is our time to destress, detach and escape from all things thrown our way, health or life-related.

Let's stop punishing ourselves, or feeling guilty about resting. Instead, let's consider it the best investment we'll ever make... into ourselves!😉
